Could I be a writer if I keep working on it?

Certainly you could. The tense is very confusing and awkward, please don't use it, but certainly, you could become a writer. Unless you're a psychic and know for sure you're going to make millions off of it, though, don't expect to live off of it. Get a reliable degree instead.
