NY Knife/Gun/Weapon Laws?

Ok ,so I go bike riding a lot with my gf in backwoods and trails. I want to arm myself with some protection like a gun or knife in case we get atacked, someone pops out of woods, ganged up on, etc. It's not a great area but the bike paths are incredible. Not very populate either. Someone could easily just pop out of the woods with a knife. Scares us both. NY knife laws are ridiculous and so are gun laws. I guess I could carry a hammer as protection, but you should be able to carry a hand gun precisely for times like that...concealed that is of course....If you're going to shoot someone, you're going to hide it on you anyway, whether it's legal or illegal. NY laws are ridiculous...can only have a knife with a tiny blade..i'm not trying to fight 4 Mexican dudes myself...i'd rather carry an illegal firearm and be safe than get my *** kicked and my gf raped..what do you think?
