What ever happened to the second amendment?

I find it disgusting that criminals will violate laws in order to obtain firearms or knives without regard for the safety and concern of others, yet we law abiding citizens cannot carry anything even remotely useful to deter someone from harming ourselves or our families. Examples are folding knives or pepper spray that are legal to carry lol what would that do to a criminal intended you hurting you? Also, the police should not be our only option because the crime has already taken place by then what do you think?
