Why do so many people rely on their firearms in the event of economic shocks and recession?

Very simple.In every recorded time of economic chaos,or social unrest,there are always certain elements of society who feel they have little,or nothing of value to sustain their existence that will attempt to take these things from those who do by forceful means. The classic example of "survival of the fittest" from both sides point of view. It has been well documented that "Those who do not believe in protecting their life,freedom,and property with weapons,will soon serve those who do." Case closed!
